At McCormick® we carefully select our whole sesame seeds for sweet, nutty flavor. Also known as “benne seed,” the creamy white seeds are loved throughout the world in baked goods as well as savory dishes. Sesame seeds are a key ingredient in Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern cooking, where they add a nutty flavor and satisfying crunch. In Asia, they are added to stir-fries, sushi, coatings for meat, fish or tofu, and noodle dishes. In the Middle East, they are in confections, spice blends and tahini paste that’s used for hummus. Sesame seeds are essential for baking where they are sprinkled on rolls, bagels, cookies and pastries. Toasting brings out a rich, nuttier flavor- cook the seeds to hot pan for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. More Less
