Dirty Rice Picadillo

Picadillo is a mixture of ground beef, tomatoes, bell peppers, and sometimes raisins and olives. It is served with rice or tortillas or used as a filling for empanadas and tacos. Use Zatarain’s® Dirty Rice Mix to make a New Orleans version of picadillo.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 package Zatarain's® Dirty Rice Dinner Mix
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup chopped pitted green olives
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

INSTRUCTIONS

  • 1 Brown ground beef in large skillet on medium-high heat. Drain fat.
  • 2 Stir in water, Rice Mix, tomatoes, almonds, olives, raisins, oregano and cumin. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 25 minutes or until rice is tender. Remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Sprinkle with cilantro.
