It’s surprisingly easy to make, cheaper than store-bought and a great project to get the family together. It starts with the basics:  high quality beef, sliced against the grain, seasoned with McCormick® Smoked Paprika & Onion with Garlic & Pepper Seasoning. Maple syrup balances out the kick of a chopped chipotle pepper, and you’ll be left with highly addictive beef jerky that is absolutely packed with flavor. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a jerky making pro, this recipe is a mouthwatering classic! INSTRUCTIONS

  • 1 Slice beef against the grain into 1/8- to 1/4-inch thick pieces and place in a bowl.

Tip: Partially freezing the steak will help make it easier to cut into strips—place the steak in the freezer for 30 to 45 minutes before slicing.
  • 2 In a separate bowl, combine the marinade ingredients: maple syrup, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, chipotle pepper, Smoked Paprika & Onion with Garlic & Pepper Seasoning and liquid smoke. Mix well.
  • 3 Add marinade to bowl with meat, mixing to incorporate. Cover and place in refrigerator overnight or up to 24 hours.
  • 4 To prepare using a DEHYDRATOR: Lay meat slices on the racks (do not overlap slices). Set the temperature to 165°F and dehydrate for 5 to 8 hours, until dehydrated and your desired texture is reached. Check for doneness after 4 hours.

To prepare using the OVEN: Lay the meat slices on a rack placed on top of a baking sheet (do not overlap slices). Set oven to 200°F and dehydrate for 3 to 8 hours, until dehydrated and your desired texture is reached. Crack oven door with a wooden spoon for better air circulation. Check for doneness after 3 hours.
  • 5 Remove jerky from the dehydrator or the oven. Allow the jerky to cool for 30 minutes and enjoy! Store leftover jerky in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
