As a global leader in flavor, McCormick® is proud to advance our efforts to sustainably source ingredients, starting with our ever-popular Ground Black Pepper!
You can now find the Grown for Good seal proudly displayed on McCormick Ground Black Pepper cans - the first raw material to earn this standard.
Grown For Good
In 2019, we launched Grown for Good, a first-of-its-kind framework for the herbs and spices industry to drive change and impact through sustainable sourcing. The initiative was designed to impact three key areas: Ethical and Safe Supply Chains, Regenerative Production Systems, and Resilient Communities.
The aims of Grown for Good include helping to provide economic stability for farmers, and gender equality and women’s empowerment, as well as biodiversity conservation and regenerative farming practices.
BLACK PEPPER, VANILLA, AND MORE
In addition to the Grown for Good framework, we have created our own Grown for Good agricultural standard. Extensively vetted and verified by leading third parties within the industry, it leverages a global network of auditors to independently confirm the application of the standard at the farm and supplier levels and has been benchmarked by the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform.
We have started implementing the Grown for Good standard with four of our top five iconic ingredients – black pepper, red pepper, vanilla and oregano
In 2021, black pepper in Brazil became the first raw material under the Grown for Good standard. Shortly after, vanilla from Indonesia and red pepper from India were also certified, while programs for vanilla in Madagascar, oregano in Turkey and black pepper in Vietnam are currently being implemented.
We’re excited for the future evolution of Grown for Good with additional herbs, spices, and ingredients in the McCormick family.
