- Crumb Topping
- 1/4 brown sugar
- 2 cold butter, cut into pieces
- 3/4 chopped walnuts, optional
- Streusel Filling
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup McCormick® White Frosting Finishing Sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- Sour Cream Coffee Cake
- 1 package (2-layer size) white cake mix
- 1 egg
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon McCormick® All Natural Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 cup McCormick® White Frosting Finishing Sugar
INSTRUCTIONS
- 1 Preheat oven to 350°F. For the Crumb Topping, mix brown sugar and butter in medium bowl. Cut in cold butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in walnuts. Set aside.
- 2 For the Streusel Filling, mix all ingredients in small bowl. Set aside.
- 3 For the Coffee Cake, mix cake mix, egg, sour cream, butter and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed about 1 minute or just until blended.
- 4 Spread half of the batter in bottom of greased 8x8-inch baking pan. Sprinkle evenly with Streusel Filling. Spoon remaining batter over top of filling and spread into an even layer. Sprinkle Crumb Topping evenly over batter.
- 5 Bake 24 to 28 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. (If topping begins to brown before bread is cooked through, tent with foil during last few minutes of baking.)
- 6 Remove coffee cake from oven and sprinkle immediately with White Frosting Sugar. Cool on wire rack. Serve warm.
